Alan Bridgewater has very kindly responded to the sugggestion I made in January, in the welcome message, and has provided us with a little information on Henry Marsden (Joey).
First, Alan points out that Joey attended Oxford University (Brazenose College), not Cambridge. (I've corrected my reference accordingly.)
I had always assumed, from what my father had told me, that Joey attended the Bluecoats School as a pupil. Alan tells me, though, that he taught there following his graduation from Oxford. (He may have done both, of course.) The specific Bluecoats School was the one at Christ's Hospital, Horsham, Sussex (now West Sussex).
Finally, Alan informs us that, prior to accepting the SBHS Headmastership, Joey was Head of Modern Languages at Manchester Grammar School.
Now that Alan has set the ball rolling, does anyone have anything to add?
Bill Potts
P.S. Note that the Bluecoats School is now simply known as Christ's Hospital. They still wear the traditional uniform (see the picture, below, which is at their web site) and maintain ties with their "Old Blues."
